KIDS CLASSES

COMBO CLASSES

Combo Classes are the perfect choice for dancers wanting to explore more than one dance style and get a taste of different varieties of dance forms. Some classes on our schedule are combo classes combining two dance styles.

BALLET I, II & III (5-12yrs)

Ballet students are taught proper body placement, posture, alignment, barre and center floor work, along with across the floor combinations. Classes introduce and expand upon vocabulary and classical ballet technique. All students are encouraged to study ballet, as it is the foundation of all other dance styles and facilitates further success in these disciplines. Our ballet classes are based on the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. Ballet students of Level II and higher are encouraged to take more than one ballet class per week for the best improvement results. Students attending Lyrical Class are required to attend one Ballet Class per week. To participate in a Level I class, students must be at least in Kindergarten at school and ready to focus and participate in dance class with no caregiver in the room.

LYRICAL I, II & III ( 5-12yrs)

This is the perfect class for students who wish to explore the combination of dance technique and the art of expressive movement. Lyrical is a style of dance that uses the emotion and mood of the music to elicit movements from the dancers. It is a fusion of Classical Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary. Students have a warm up focusing on core strength, flexibility, and movement of the back. The class includes floor work, progressions, and center combinations that are performed to music with lyrics to inspire the movements. Any student attending Lyrical is required to also attend at least one Classical Ballet Class per week in order to build the strong foundation of technique that is required to perform Lyrical routines. To participate in a Level I class, students must be at least in Kindergarten at school and ready to focus and participate in dance class with no caregiver in the room.

JAZZ I, II & III (5-12yrs)

This class is fun and energetic. It is a great class for students to explore their individual style and build confidence through movement. Jazz Classes focus on technical elements such as kicks, leaps, turns, splits, and isolations. Classes include stretch and strengthening exercises, floor work, and across the floor progressions in addition to a center floor combination. Dance combinations will be performed at the end of each class in small groups for fellow students. Occasionally choreography will be added each week in order to practice remembering steps and building upon them from week to week. Other times a brand new dance routine will be taught. Classes will incorporate Modern and Broadway Jazz styles. To participate in a Level I class, students must be at least in Kindergarten at school and ready to focus and participate in dance class with no caregiver in the room.

HIP HOP I, II & III (5-12yrs)

This is a fun, high energy dance style. The first section of class will be dedicated to warm ups. Hip Hop is a style that combines street dance with funk and jazz, similar to what you would see in televised dance performances or music videos. Choreography will always be age appropriate and non-suggestive. Students will learn the importance of strength, musicality, isolations and dynamics to execute funk movements. Dance combinations will be performed at the end of each class in small groups for fellow students. Occasionally choreography will be added each week in order to practice remembering steps and building upon them from week to week. Other times a brand new dance routine will be taught. To participate in a Level I class, students must be at least in Kindergarten at school and ready to focus and participate in dance class with no caregiver in the room.

TAP I, II & III (5-12yrs)

Tap is the perfect dance style for children who love to make noise using rhythm, dynamics, and varying sounds. Tappers will have a graduated warm-up to loosen their ankles and knees for proper execution of progressions across the floor and skills in the center.

JAZZFUNK I, II & III (5-12yrs)

JazzFunk is a fusion dance style that derives from Hip Hop and Commercial Jazz Dancing. It incorporates the flexibility, strength and technique of Modern Jazz dance, whilst also including the soul and musicality of Hip Hop. Class will begin with a warm-up, then Jazz technique exercises across the room, finishing with learning a fun routine that involves highly syncopated musicality and intricate movements. Dance combinations will be performed at the end of each class in small groups for fellow students. Occasionally true Modern or Broadway Jazz choreography will be taught and added each week in order to practice remembering steps and building upon them from week to week. Other times a brand new JazzFunk routine will be taught. To participate in a Level I class, students must be at least in Kindergarten at school and ready to focus and participate in dance class with no caregiver in the room.
